This is a record very close to my heart. I continue to remain puzzled, if not flabbergasted, why certain contemporary composers are all but ignored by the concert music establishment when there is such music as Nan allowed me the privilege to record on this album. Please take the time to read her extraordinary achievements here. She remains, in my view, the greatest American woman composer of her generation – which is wholly unsurprising when you come to know the musical household in which she grew up.

This record was probably the most complex but nevertheless rewarding album we have ever done. The record was produced with the assistance of ASCAP who selected the American writers whose songs were included. The vocalists on the album were selected through a worldwide competition. As it turned out, I spent a lot of time on planes to different parts of the world; firstly trying to find appropriate recording studios near where the selected vocalists lived, and then producing the vocal tracks as you hear them. These songs are exceptional examples of the new American musical theatre. You won’t be disappointed. There are also a complete set of videos that accompany these songs which can be accessed here.
Castle Gillian: An Irish Tale
Should someone ever ask me which of the musicals I have written did I really have to do – for myself – then it is Castle Gillian: An Irish Tale. I am unashamedly a massive fan of the novels by Irishman, Maurice Walsh. There’s no denying it – I am a romance novel tragic! It’s really more than just a stage musical however, because we also made this fabulous musical story into a feature-length, 360˚ film.
