The Bax Project

It has been a long held ambition of mine to bring the music of Sir Arnold Bax (1883 – 1953) – and especially his seven symphonies and wonderful tone poems – to greater public awareness. The legacy of our interest in Bax’s music stems from having learned these symphonies from my original conducting teacher, the late Myer Fredman, whose Lyrita record label recordings of the symphonies (along with those of Sir John Pritchard) remain unsurpassed in the catalogue.

So, commencing in 2019, the Australian Discovery Orchestra will start a biennial festival to celebrate the work of one of Britain’s greatest, yet still under-represented, composers from the first half of the 20th-Century. More news about this exciting initiative will be forthcoming later in 2018.
